Artificially in Order by Erianto

Element Art Space is pleased to present Artifically In Order, Erianto’s third solo exhibition in Singapore.

Known for his hyper-realistic paintings of cardboard packages and wooden crates, Erianto once again pushes the limits of painting in an exceptional manner.

In the pursuit of hyperrealism, Erianto develops his practice by juxtaposing wood fibre illusions with incompatible figures and objects visualised in a surreal way. This incompatibility highlights the artificial side of human relationships in modern civilisation. Through these works, he emphasises concerns of a sense of belonging and demonstrates the need for meaningful social connection.

In this contemporary engagement with modern art histories of Southeast Asia, the research practices of the Buddhist Archive of Photograpy in Luang Prabang Laos, and the collaborative project by artists Amy Lien and Enzo Camacho focusing on the Filipino-American modernist painter Alfonso Ossorio are juxtaposed in this presentation.
