Art Encounters by Art Outreach: Perpetual Motion by Gerald Leow
Inspired by perpetual motion machines that have long captivated the imagination of inventors and alchemists for symbolising man’s ability to rise above physical limitations, the kinetic sculptures are designed to rotate in the wind and reflect the built environment surrounding the waterfront plaza. Drawing on concepts of circular motion and pause, their movements parallel the forced reset of the pandemic that has made society stop to recalibrate. In keeping with Art Encounters’ mission to reveal more of the creative process to the public, visitors can also explore an artist’s studio filled with sketches and models within the repurposed shipping containers.
