Synopsis

The planned mural at Yan Kit Playfield, commissioned by Sport Singapore, reinterprets a 1950s mural at the former Yan Kit Swimming Pool, revitalising the past with a fresh vision. Celebrating the site’s heritage, the artwork features a fun underwater scene with native marine wildlife and incorporates the unique ticket counter grill design. The new mural invites viewers to explore the intersection of art, history, and the environment, reflecting the vibrant recreational purpose of Yan Kit Playfield. As a space of shared memory, it connects the community to the rich cultural narratives that define the Tanjong Pagar neighbourhood. Transforming the playfield into a visual landmark, the mural offers an opportunity to pause, reflect, and appreciate the evolving identity of the area, whilst honouring the spirit of the past.
