Synopsis

Abstract geometry and vibrant colours converge in British artist Nick Grindrod’s work to create a visual symphony. Grindrod's newest exhibition, “Variation on a Theme” is his first solo presentation in Asia. His practice has been compared to an archaeological investigation. Grindrod meticulously adds and removes layers of paint to reveal complex histories and textures reminiscent of the weathered bricks and exposed plaster of Sheffield’s industrial past. Known for balancing clean-edge colour fields with gestural marks, Grindrod presents dynamic compositions, in which bold, flat colours sit alongside abraded, distressed surfaces, creating a visual tension that speaks to the passage of time and the stories embedded within urban landscapes. Kick off the new year by joining us in celebrating Grindrod's unique artistic voice.
