Synopsis

Rotan Rattan: Meditations by Artists Chen Yanyun and Dave Lim reflect on how childhood discipline is remembered within Singapore's culture of over-compliance, where hardship is believed to cultivate virtue and shape obedience. For many, these painful lessons are later softened by humour, a way of soothing fear and transforming compliance into resilience. This exhibition explores how childhood pain lingers in the body, and how such narratives might be acknowledged, healed, and reimaged.
