Synopsis

Ikan Besar Skali by Hu Qiren reimagines the grandeur of historical whale displays, bridging natural history with contemporary art. The sculpture invites reflection, revealing layers of climate histories, curatorial narratives, and decolonial perspectives. Suspended at the Esplanade Concourse, the space becomes a contemplative site, becoming a resonant presence Fabricated in electroplated resin with anatomical precision, its materiality straddles the natural and industrial, reinterpreting history and mythology for the present moment.
