See Nee Soon is a collaborative community mapping exercise that aims to discover unknown stories and sites within the Yishun community. Through an asset-based community development (ABCD) approach, this project hopes to engage Yishun residents in identifying the assets or “gems” in the neighbourhood, focusing on place-based assets. During this process, Yishun Park Hawker Centre will be activated as a home base to collect stories by engaging the different community stakeholders, including residents, diners, and stall owners. This project will culminate in a visual and performing arts showcase at the end of the residency. The narrative of “Nee Soon” will be told through the eyes of a Pineapple King character, as we journey with his adventures, seeing and retelling the stories in and about Yishun from different perspectives. See Nee Soon is part of the Community Arts Residency, an initiative by NAC in collaboration with Yishun Park Hawker Centre.
