Haffendi Anuar’s Midday Stanza is an immersive installation that incorporates various sculptures and objects and stems from the artist interest in the landscape and cityscape.
The artwork, when installed in the gallery space, creates a condensed landscape filled with mock relics and strange totems and draws on the artist’s thoughts on the current state of Malaysia, post GE 2018. Using materials, forms and imageries that are often associated and alluding to architecture, monuments, progress and modernization, Haffendi uses various presentation strategies and methods, in an attempt to articulate the feeling after the euphoria of post-election results has faded and the country experiencing a first-time shift in shared value systems.
