Kamal Dollah: Split Materiality
Drawings and paintings by local artist Kamal Dollah negotiating between tradition and technology in a materialistic world.
A first solo art exhibition in his artistic career spanning over 30 years because Kamal does not have a fixed point of view, draws inspiration from diverse sources and operates as if a person with split personality disorder, darting from one art genre to another. A master of traditional batik painting, he also leads a retail caricature team, is very involved in the community and earns a living teaching art. His subject matter constantly shifts from figurative to abstraction and sporadic attempts at sceneries. This exhibition displays his musings in a diversity of subjects, mediums and channels of art consumption. It sets a discourse on the material value of art in this day and age, especially with the emergence of NFT (Non Fungible Tokens).
