Synopsis

Step into the vibrant world of the Peranakans during the Singapore Art Week 2025. Housed in a beautifully preserved 1928 Peranakan Mansion, this unique exhibition celebrates the rich heritage of Peranakan art and fashion, reimagined for the modern era.

Visitors will be mesmerized by an array of traditional and contemporary Peranakan pieces, showcasing the intricate craftsmanship and vibrant aesthetics that define this unique culture. The event will feature works from renowned Peranakan craft artists and fashion designers, offering a fresh perspective on timeless traditions.

During SAW, the Peranakan Mansion will have a special exhibition of Peranakan art and fashion of beadworks, traditional and contemporary Peranakan inspired fashion, jewelries, etc, and hourly guided tours around the Peranakan Museum. 

On weekends, a series of engaging sharing sessions by distinguished speakers will be held:

- Nyonya Christine Ong [18th & 19th Jan 2pm], celebrated author of "Nyonya Kebaya", who will delve into the history and evolution of the iconic Nyonya Kebaya attire.
- Nyonya Angeline Kong [18th & 19th Jan 3.30pm], a master beadwork crafter, known for her intricate beadwork workshops at the Peranakan Mansion, will share her insights on this delicate art form.
- Nyonya Jackie Sam [25th & 26th Jan at 2pm], a veteran in beadwork and embroidery, will showcase and share her Peranakan embroidery, blending traditional techniques with contemporary styles.
- Baba Norman Cho [25th & 26th Jan at 3.30pm], author of "The Bejewelled Lives of the Peranakans", will explore the opulent jewelry and adornments that characterize Peranakan fashion.

 

This immersive experience promises to transport visitors through time, offering a deeper appreciation of the enduring beauty and cultural significance of Peranakan art and fashion. Join us in celebrating the artistry and heritage of the Peranakans, as we reimagine their timeless legacy for the future.
