Synopsis

From One Sky To Another takes inspiration from an etymological understanding of the word ‘map’ which derived from the Latin meaning of cloth or as ‘an object used to carry things’. The idea of a map becoming ‘mobile’, in synchronicity as an object able to hold information, explores the idea of transference in time and place. Renowned for her metal sculptures and mapping of celestial bodies, this series is Tan’s continuation of that exploration with new ideas of mapping (triangulation) and mythology. Deep within the pictorial landscape, hidden maps of constellations provide hints of a shifting landscape and story, carrying representations of places into a new sky.
