Synopsis
Touchpoints (2026) is a collaborative installation by Hans Chew and Genevieve Leong, loosely inspired by the bouldering wall. Constructed within a narrow plywood box that can only be viewed through its windows, a series of sculptural assemblages are peppered throughout all dimensions of the box, creating a textured and ergonomic terrain. Through a sequence of alternating decisions, the artists respond to one another's gestures, mapping pathways of proximity, inter-dependency, and disruption. As objects pass between hands, their meanings and connotations shift: the objects by each artist are unexpectedly interrupted and used differently by the other, resulting in a series of creature-like forms suspended between resolution and estrangement. Taking inspiration from the various types of climbing holds - jugs, crimps, slopers, pinches, and pockets - the confined structure becomes an amalgamation of non-linear conversations: between the artists and their objects.
